Agentic Hedera: how AI agents use Hedera and HBAR

Agentic Hedera covers the tools AI agents use to hold, pay and record on Hedera, and agentic HBAR is what they spend. What is live and what is in early access.

Agentic Hedera means AI agents that act on the Hedera network by themselves: they hold an account, pay for services in HBAR, and write what they did to a public ledger. Agentic HBAR is the payment side of that, HBAR spent by an agent inside limits its owner set.

Many of the tools are open source, and some are still on testnet or in early access. This page lists them with their status, explains why HBAR suits agents, and shows what agents can do on SentX, the NFT marketplace on Hedera, today.

Hedera's tools for AI agents

Each line below is what Hedera or the project says about its own tool, checked on October 8, 2026.

Hedera Agent Kit
An open source toolkit under the Apache 2.0 license, with adapters for LangChain, the Vercel AI SDK, ElizaOS, Google's Agent Development Kit and MCP. An agent can transfer HBAR, work with tokens and write to consensus topics, either signing itself or handing back an unsigned transaction for a person to sign. See the Hedera Agent Kit.
Hedera Agent Lab
Announced on March 26, 2026: a workspace in the Hedera Developer Portal, built on the Agent Kit, with a no-code builder and modes for writing code. Its agents run against Hedera testnet, either on their own or with a person approving each transaction. Hedera says a Controls panel for per transaction HBAR caps and token allowlists is coming. Read Hedera's announcement.
Agent accounts
Hedera is taking sign-ups through an early access form. It says these will let an agent spend inside owner rules: approved recipients, daily and per transaction limits and time windows. Hedera agent accounts explained separates the claims from what is live.
Hedera MCP servers
Hedera lists a Network MCP on testnet where nothing settles until you sign in your own wallet, a read-only Docs MCP, a Payments MCP marked coming soon, and a community MCP from HGraph for mirror node data. See Hedera's MCP page.
Agentic Payments Partner Program
An early access program for organizations building payment agents, who work with the Hedera AI Studio team on a proof of concept. See Hedera's program page.
HCS-10 OpenConvAI
A draft standard from the Hashgraph Online community for agents to register, find each other and exchange messages over consensus topics. Read the HCS-10 standard.
x402
An open standard that revives the HTTP 402 Payment Required status, so an API can ask for a payment and an agent can pay and retry in one request cycle. Hedera support was added to the x402 project in 2026. Why AI agents pay with HBAR covers it.

Why HBAR suits agents

What an agent needsOn Hedera
A cost it knows before it actsFees are set in US dollars and paid in HBAR. An HBAR transfer costs about $0.0001, so ten thousand of them cost about $1.
Settlement it can trust straight awayConsensus in seconds, with no forks or rollbacks, so the seller can deliver as soon as the receipt arrives.
A cap its owner sets onceNative allowances let an owner approve an agent's account to spend up to a set amount without sharing the main key. Approving one costs $0.05.
A person in the loop for large amountsThreshold keys can require the agent's signature plus a person's, and scheduled transactions collect the second signature on the network.
A record nobody can editEvery transfer is on a public ledger, and a consensus topic message costs about $0.0008, so an agent can log each decision.

Base fees from Hedera's fee table; some transactions add extras on top.

Agents and NFTs on Hedera

Most NFTs on Hedera are native Hedera Token Service tokens, so an agent reads and moves them with the same account, allowance and key rules as HBAR. An owner can approve an agent for specific serials only. Agentic NFTs covers what the term means and how each version works.

Where SentX fits

SentX is the NFT marketplace and launchpad on Hedera. Hedera's case study on SentX, read on October 8, 2026, says SentX accounts for "over 98% of all NFT collecting activity" on the network. Read Hedera's case study.

Agents can read that market through the read-only SentX MCP server at https://mcp.sentx.io/mcp: floors, also per trait, listings, offers, recent sales, one NFT's details, a wallet's holdings and the whole market's last 24 hours. It connects from Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code or your own code. AI agents and MCP has the setup, and the SentX API serves the same data to your software.

The MCP server only reads. It does not buy, sell, list, transfer or sign. Buying on sentx.io happens in your own wallet, where the price is checked again when you approve.

Common questions

What does agentic Hedera mean?

AI agents that act on the Hedera network themselves: holding an account, paying in HBAR or tokens, and logging their actions on the ledger, inside limits a person sets.

What are agentic HBAR payments?

Payments an AI agent makes in HBAR without a person approving each one, such as paying per API call over x402. The owner caps them with a separate account, an allowance or a threshold key. Why AI agents pay with HBAR covers it in full.

Is any of this on mainnet?

Allowances, threshold keys, scheduled transactions and consensus topics are live on mainnet. Hedera Agent Lab and Hedera's hosted Network MCP run on testnet, and Hedera is taking early access sign-ups for agent accounts.

Can an agent trade NFTs on SentX?

Not through the SentX MCP server, which only reads. The SentX API can place and cancel collection offers for your own wallet once you switch on the Manage Collection Offers permission in Settings.

Where do I start?

On testnet, where HBAR has no value. Give the agent its own account, never your main key, and treat every web page and NFT description it reads as data, not instructions.
