The weak nuclear force, also known as the weak interaction, is the mechanism of interaction between subatomic particles that is responsible for the radioactive decay of atoms. The effective range of the weak force is limited to subatomic distances, less than the diameter of a proton. In fact, part of the reason the center of the Earth is so hot is because of the decay of radioactive elements caused by the weak force. The carrier particles of the weak force are W and Z bosons.
